CHISINAU (Sputnik) — Russia and NATO should refrain from engaging Moldova in their confrontation, Moldova's Defense Minister Anatolie Salaru said Friday.
"NATO and Russia should not tackle their issues here. We are a neutral and peaceful country. We do not want to be a firing range," Salaru told the local Parliament.
Russian peacekeeping mission has been deployed in Moldova's Transnistria since 1992 putting an end to armed hostilities following the region's breakaway attempt.
At the same time Moldova has been working alongside NATO member states and its partner countries on a wide range of issues through the alliance’s Partnership for Peace program since 1994.
