WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said on Friday he would not rule out suing Donald Trump over his proposed Muslim ban if the presumptive Republican nominee becomes the next president of the United States.
"Obviously we don’t believe in executive overreach. It’s one of our planks of our agenda. I’ve spoken at great length with Donald Trump about [it]," Ryan told the Huffington Post when asked about Trump’s proposed Muslim ban.
On Monday, Trump reiterated his call for the United States to suspend immigration from any country with a history of Islamic extremism. He has previously called for temporarily banning all Muslims from entering the United States until their identity is determined.
"I would sue any president who exceeds his or her powers," Ryan stated.
However, Ryan said that he will support Trump to prevent a Democrat from being elected in the November general election.
