"In the northern part of the Aleppo province, near the Syrian-Turkish border, the units of the Syrian Armed Forces have stopped a large-scale offensive of military formations of Jabhat al-Nusra as well as neutralized all the attempts of terrorists to take the control of the Halasah inhabited area (in the south-west of the Aleppo province) and capture the commanding points," the center said in a bulletin posted by the Russian Defense Ministry on its website.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with numerous opposition factions and Islamic extremist groups fighting government forces seeking to topple the government of President Bashar Assad.
The ceasefire in Syria worked out by Russia and the United States took effect on February 27. The cessation of hostilities does not apply to terrorist organizations, such as Daesh and the al-Nusra Front, outlawed in a number of countries worldwide including Russia.
