WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Commander of the Canadian Army Marquis Hainse has visited troops deployed to Poland and Ukraine, and met with local officials, Canada’s Department of National Defense said in a press release on Monday.
"Canada’s commitment to Operations REASSURANCE [in Poland] and UNIFIER [in Ukraine] provides opportunities for the Canadian Army to contribute to stability in Central and Eastern Europe," Hainse stated.
The visit took place on June 14-18, according to the Defense Department.
Canadian Army personnel have been deployed to support NATO operations in Europe since 2015. The Canadian authorities sent a training mission to Ukraine last year.
