MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The lower house of the Russian Parliament, the State Duma, may create a commission to investigate the doping scandal in sports in the country, which led to Russian athletes being banned from the 2016 Rio Olympics, Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said Tuesday.
"Russian legislature allows the State Duma to create a commission if the Duma thinks it has grounds," Naryshkin said at a plenary meeting when answering a question about whether the parliament's lower house could open an investigation into the doping scandal in Russia.
In 2015, the WADA Independent Commission issued a report accusing Russia of numerous breaches of global anti-doping regulations, which led to the temporary suspension of Russian Athletic Federation's membership of the association, by the International Association of Athletes Federation (IAAF).
