Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar reached Seoul on Wednesday in an effort to convince the NSG members to garner support for India’s bid for NSG.
“While it is true that the Foreign Secretary has flown to Seoul, the NSG Plenary has not begun yet. As I have cautioned earlier, please don’t jump to any conclusions. This is a delicate and complex process. At this point let us not speculate,” government sources told Sputnik.
For the past couple of months India has been intensely lobbying for the 48-member NSG club. In fact, Prime Minister Modi himself persuaded Switzerland and Mexico during his visits. Modi persuaded the US not only to support but also lobby on behalf of India and get crucial support from his allies. During the SCO Summit Modi will try to impress Kazakhstan also.
The NSG Plenary meeting in Seoul is crucial for India’s NSG bid.
