TOKYO (Sputnik) – The US, Japanese and South Korean military detected two launches of presumably medium-range ballistic missiles from North Korea’s eastern coast earlier in the day.
The countries conducting missile launches should inform UN agencies about such plans so that ships and aircraft stay away from the areas involved in the tests. However, North Korea failed to do that before Wednesday launches, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Tensions over North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs escalated after Pyongyang said on January 6 that it had successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test and put a satellite into orbit on February 7. The moves violate UN Security Council resolutions, prompting the United Nations to impose sanctions.
