KIEV (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, a source in the European Council told Sputnik that the European Union had agreed to extend economic sanctions against Russia until late January 2017, adding that the Council still had to make a formal decision on the matter.
"The parties exchanged views on the development of the Minsk process on the results of the visit of the president of Ukraine to France and on the continuation of sanctions against Russia," the press service of the Ukrainian president said.
Poroshenko and Merkel have also discussed the results of the meeting of the foreign policy advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format countries, which was held in Minsk on June 15-16.
The two leaders have also discussed the preparations for the NATO summit which will be held in Warsaw on July 8-9. Poroshenko was invited to take part in the event.
