Russian Football Team Submits 46 Doping Samples During Euro-2016 in France
11:24 GMT 22.06.2016 (Updated: 13:20 GMT 17.10.2022) The Russian national football team has submitted 46 doping samples during the UEFA Euro 2016 championship in France, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Monday, the Russian team suffered a devastating 0:3 defeat in a game against Wales after drawing with England and losing to Slovakia.
"We were tested 46 times at the Euros. It is an endless thing, you need to create a normal system," Mutko told reporters in the wake of a doping scandal that plagued Russian athletics.
The Euro 2016 is taking place in various French cities from June 10 to July 10.
In December 2014, German ARD channel released a film titled "The Doping Secret: How Russia Creates Champions" on alleged doping abuse and corruption in Russian sports. The film was followed up by documentaries with further allegations.
Following the release of the film, WADA launched an investigation into the allegations of doping abuse in Russian sports. In November 2015, WADA's Independent Commission issued a report accusing Russia of numerous breaches of global anti-doping regulations. The IAAF suspended the Russian Athletic Federation's membership as a result.
