The recall announcement was made by Maserati following the deadly incident with American actor Anton Yelchin.
Earlier it was reported that the 27-year-old US actor of Russian origin died on Sunday morning in the San Fernando Valley. Friends of the actor found his body clamped between his car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a mailbox attached to the entrance gates outside his house.
Los Angeles police reported the actor died of accidental "blunt traumatic asphyxia." The death could have been caused by a defect in the design of the gear lever in his car.
The 2014 and 2015 models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee produced in the period between April 16, 2012 and December 2015 were recalled by Fiat Chrysler in April 2016 as a gearshift design in these cars made it difficult to identify what gear the vehicle is in.
Maserati is now recalling its vehicles for the same reason. The measure will affect the 2014 models of the Quattroporte and Ghibli cars released in the period from June 1, 2013 to February 28, 2014.
