MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The case with the Auckland District Court sentencing Imran Patel, 26, who was suspected of creating, possessing and spreading terrorism-related materials, is the first of its kind in the country.
Local authorities claim that in October 2015 Patel sent text messages to 52 people with an attached link to a video allegedly made by Daesh, the newspaper reported. The video contained scenes with people being beheaded, shot and burned alive.
Daesh, outlawed in a range of countries including Russia and the United States, has seized vast areas in Iraq and Syria since 2014, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. The group is notorious for its human rights atrocities and brutal tactics, such as public beheading and the stoning of women. The group has claimed responsibility for terror attacks in other parts of the world as well.
