The results of the Brexit vote show that Europeans are discontent with the existing model of the European Union, a representative of the French Left Party said.

On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.

Brexit to Make EU Address Discontent With Economic, Migrant Crises
"Even if we have differences with those voting for Brexit, the results of the vote are positive because the majority has said no to the European Union," Djordje Kuzmanovic, National Secretary of the French Left Party (Parti de Gauche) told Sputnik.

The politician noted that people said no the current model of the EU, including such controversial topics as the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Such deals contradict with the interests of European people, he underscored.

He expressed hope that the results of the vote would slow down the implementation of the TTIP deal between the EU and the United States. However, the US may make an attempt to speed up the finalizations of the deal, he added.

According to Kuzmanovic, the British vote may be the first step to a large-scale reorganization within the EU.

"I hope we’re on the way to a new Europe where the interests of people, not oligarchs and international corporations," he said.

In conclusion, the politician said that Britain’s withdrawal from the EU would prompt Brussels to strengthen its migration policy.
