On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum on its membership of the European Union. In Scotland, 1.6 million voted in favor of remaining part of the European Union, while about one million voted in favor of leaving.
"We said clearly we do not want to leave the EU. I will do all it takes to ensure these aspirations are realised… An independence referendum is highly likely," Sturgeon said, as quoted by the BBC.
She added that all the possible means to keep Scotland a part of the 28-nation bloc would be explored.
