US, UK to Maintain Security, Trade Relations After Brexit
13:22 GMT 24.06.2016 (Updated: 15:27 GMT 28.05.2023) The United States will continue to work with the United Kingdom to advance both nations’ common security and trade interests despite the decision by British voters to leave the European Union, US Senate Foreign Relations chair Bob Corker said in a statement on Friday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit.
"Today's referendum will not change our special relationship with the United Kingdom," Corker stated. "That close partnership will endure, and we will continue to work together to strengthen a robust trade relationship and to address our common security interests."
