MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has been notified about the detention of Kirov governor Nikita Belykh, and since Russian law enforcement works independently no prior consultations were held with the government, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Saturday.
"The president has been notified on detention, the law enforcement and investigators work independently, obviously, and therefore there can be no question about any prior consultations," Peskov said.
He added that the decision to dismiss Kirov governor is up for President Vladimir Putin to make and no decision has been made yet.
Belykh was detained on Friday in Moscow while receiving a nearly $450,000 bribe.
