State officials say Officer Robert Cooper was responding to a call last month when he encountered Antwon Gallmon who was in the driver seat of his car. According to video from the officer's dashboard camera, Gallmon looked at the officer and then tried to flee the scene. Cooper then moved in front of the car and Gallmon came close to hitting the officer with his car.
Cooper then shouted “Stop! Stop! Do not make me shoot you!" before firing seven rounds at Gallmon, hitting him at least once.
Cooper then reported "Shots fired! Shots Fired! He tried to hit me with the vehicle," presumably to dispatch, before getting into his cruiser and chasing the teenager for two miles.
Gallmon reportedly then crashed into an ATM and was later taken to the hospital, jailed, and released on bond. Cooper was never injured and has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
