Earlier in the day, militants stormed the Naso-Hablod hotel, which is popular among foreigners, after detonating a car bomb at its gate. Up to seven people were killed, according to various estimates. A hostage crisis is reportedly in progress.
"According to the Embassy’s updated information, no Russian citizens were hurt in the terrorist attack in Mogadishu," press attache at the Russian Embassy in Djibouti Veronika Novikova told RIA Novosti.
Somalia has been mired in an armed conflict with Islamist militants for two decades. Earlier this month, ten people were killed in an attack on the Ambassador hotel in the Somalian capital.
