BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — Earlier on Saturday, local media reported that Belgian police had arrested two people suspected of preparing terrorist attacks in the locations that are broadcasting the ongoing European Football Championship. The operation was conducted in the Ensival district of the Belgian city of Verviers and in the city of Mons.
"Two people, Arnaud C., born in 1983, and E., a Belgian citizen, have been detained and placed under arrest by a court investigator. They are accused of being members of a terrorist group as a perpetrator and a perpetrator's accomplice," the Belgian federal prosecutor's office said in a statement.
No weapons or explosives were found during the arrest, according to the statement.
France is hosting the Euro 2016 football championship, which started on June 10 and is due to end on July 10.
