MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The European Union will prefer pragmatism over isolationism and interventionism in its foreign policy engagement around the world, the EU Global Strategy on foreign and security policy published on Tuesday said.
The strategy was presented by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini at the European Council meeting, which is taking place on June 28-29.
"In charting the way between the Scylla of isolationism and the Charybdis of rash interventionism, the EU will engage the world manifesting responsibility towards others and sensitivity to contingency. Principled pragmatism will guide our external action in the years ahead," the Strategy reads.
On Sunday, ahead of the Council meeting, Mogherini said that the European Union needed a specific strategy and common action to respond to modern challenges.
