WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, House Select Committee’s Republican majority released its report on the attack at the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi.
“We expect our government to make every effort to save the lives of Americans who serve in harm’s way. That did not happen in Benghazi,” Pompeo said. “Politics were put ahead of the lives of Americans, and while the administration had made excuses and blamed the challenges posed by time and distance, the truth is that they did not try.”
The report stated that despite President Obama and then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s orders to deploy military assets, the US military did not meet established deployment timelines during the deadly attack on the US diplomatic compound.
The 2012 attack in the Libyan port city of Benghazi happened on the 11th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, DC, and killed US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
