MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is developing a new military ship that would track the launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles, the manufacturing company Iceberg Central Design Bureau said in its annual report Tuesday.
To date, the Russian Navy only has one tracking ship — the Marshal Krylov vessel, built in 1990, which is currently undergoing renovations in Russia’s eastern city of Vladivostok.
"Starting in October 2015, work began on the technical design of the measuring complex ship project 18290," the 2015 report said, as seen by RIA Novosti.
Missile range instrumentation ships, also known as the tracking ships, carry equipment to support the launching and tracking of missiles and rockets.
