Security Services Detain 6 Extremists, Prevent Terror Attack in Kazakhstan
05:46 GMT 30.06.2016 (Updated: 05:47 GMT 30.06.2016) A total of six extremists were detained during a special operation carried out in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda Region, National Security Committee chief Vladimir Zhumakanov said Thursday.
ASTANA (Sputnik) – All of the extremists are Kazakhstan’s citizens who prepared terror attacks in the Karaganda Region.
Zhumakanov pointed out that the special operation had nothing with
June 5 terror attack in Aktobe.
The National Security Committee announced on Wednesday that illegal activities of a group of radicals was stopped as a result of the special operation carried out on June 26 in the city of Balkhash and in the town of Gulshat.
On June 5, unidentified armed assailants attacked two gun shops and a military unit in Aktobe. In response, the country's authorities announced an anti-terrorism operation. The incident left 25 people killed, including 18 terrorists, who were said to be radical followers of non-conventional religious movements.
