BAKU (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to visit Baku next week, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said Thursday.
"[Lavrov's] visit will determine whether another meeting on Nagorno-Karabakh is to take place at the presidential level," the Trend news agency quoted Mammadyarov as saying.
Violence erupted in Azerbaijan’s breakaway area on April 2 and led to multiple casualties. The parties signed a Russian-brokered ceasefire in Moscow on April 5 but mutual accusations have not stopped so far.
Nagorno-Karabakh proclaimed its independence in 1991. After the military conflict ended in 1994, Azerbaijan lost control over the region mostly populated by the Armenians.
