WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Richardson’s comments coincided with the US Navy’s release of the report on its investigation of the January 12 seizure of two patrol boats by Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces in the Persian Gulf.
"There’re different levels of SEAR [Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape] as you know, and the aviators received always the highest level," Richardson said. "Prior to this event the NECC [Navy Expeditionary Combat Command] received a lower level and that is one of the fixes. They will now receive the exact same level of training."
Intervention by US Secretary of State John Kerry resulted in the sailors being released following a night of captivity and interrogation. However, actions by some of the sailors have raised concerns, including one sailor apologizing on a widely distributed video for straying into Iranian waters.
Richardson declined to comment on actions by individuals involved, but made clear that some sailors actions did not live up to expectations.
