SOCHI (Sputnik) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is ready to hold a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Russia before the G20 summit in China in September, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Friday.
"President Erdogan is ready to meet with Putin in Russia before the G20 summit, we are currently discussing the date," Cavusoglu told reporters.
Relations between Moscow and Ankara deteriorated following the downing of the Russian Su-24 aircraft by a Turkish F-16 fighter in Syria on November 24, 2015.
On June 27, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a letter addressed to Putin apologized over the downing of a Russian aircraft by a Turkish jet and extended condolences to the family of the pilot killed in the incident.
On June 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted Russia's ban on charter flights to Turkey and ordered the government to negotiate the revival of trade between the two countries.
Earlier on Friday, the Kremlin spokesman said he did not rule out the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders before the G20 summit.
