US-Turkey Military Cooperation Likely to Be Unaffected by Thaw With Moscow
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation for the first time in more than seven months. The leaders agreed to restore cooperattion, inluding in the spheres of trade, tourism and the fight against terrorism.

On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin to express regret and send condolences for the November 2015 downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber in Syria by Turkey.

Russian tourists should be given the chance to travel to Turkey this holiday season, but security concerns should be addressed in light of recent terrorist attacks in the country, Medvedev said.

"The idea is to give the opportunity for our people who love to spend vacations in Turkey to do so in the current tourist season, subject however to one major condition: Turkey suffered a terrorist attack, unfortunately not for the first time, so the issue of security must still be advanced to the forefront," he said.
