Ukraine's Crisis Can Be Overcome Only Through Elections, New Leadership
KIEV (Sputnik) — Snap parliamentary or presidential elections in Ukraine could have catastrophic consequences for the country, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko said.

"Only a few months ago, early presidential and parliamentary elections seemed actually real. I am deeply convinced — as a person, as a citizen — that early elections would lead to a catastrophe in this country," Lutsenko's press secretary Larisa Sargan quoted him as saying on her Facebook page.

According to the prosecutor general, Ukrainians continue to support snap elections due to lack of changes under the current government.

The Ukraine political crisis escalated in February, after the parliamentary faction aligned to Ukraine's president – the Petro Poroshenko Bloc – described the cabinet’s work in 2015 as unsatisfactory. The following day, then-Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s government survived a no-confidence vote, which forced various factions to leave the ruling parliamentary coalition. Yatsenyuk subsequently announced his resignation amid the parliamentary crisis in the country.
