WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Army's deputy commanding general and staff members of the House Defense Appropriations Committee visited Yavoriv to observe both the ongoing US mission to Ukraine and the joint military exercise Rapid Trident 16, the US Army Europe said in a press release.
"It’s been reassuring to say the least to see that that [training] effort is under way to get to a sort of sustainable instruction level where the Ukrainians are taking complete ownership of that training aspect," US Army Europe deputy commanding general Major Gen. John Gronski stated in the release.
Rapid Trident 16 is an annual exercise with participants from 13 different allied and partnered nations. It focuses on defensive operations, interoperability between partner nations, and validation of training units, the press release noted.
The joint US-Ukraine drill is taking place at the Yavoriv test range located between the city of Lviv and the Polish border.
