BEIRUT (Sputnik) — New Syrian opposition members have not been included into the composition of the new country's government, a source from the Information Ministry told RIA Novosti Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Syrian President Bashar Assad appointed a new government headed by former Electricity Minister Imad Khamis.
"The new opposition members are not present in the new government. Reconciliation Affairs Minister Ali Haidar remains the only opposition representative," the source said.
In late June, Assad tasked Electricity Minister Imad Mohammad Deeb Khamis with forming new government. Haidar said then that the issue of inclusion of internal opposition members into the new government was being studied.
Haidar has retained his post in the new government. The minister is in charge of a reconciliation program, prescribing that Syrian nationals with no links to terrorism may lay down arms and return to civilian life after a rehabilitation process.
