MOSCOW (Sputnik) — NATO's enlargement policy is undermining the foundation of European security and damages the countries where the alliance is increasing its presence, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
"The continuation of NATO's expansion policy undermines the foundations of European security, destabilizes the European continent and, of course, damages the national interests of NATO's member states," Peskov told reporters.
Since 2014, NATO has been building up its military presence in Europe, using Moscow's alleged interference in Ukraine as a pretext for the move. Moscow has repeatedly denied the claims and warned NATO that the military buildup on Russia’s borders is provocative and threatens the existing strategic balance of power.
