PRAGUE (Sputnik) — Slovak opposition says that the prime minister rents his apartment from Ladislav Basternak, who is alleged to have built an elite housing complex using misappropriated state funds. Kalinak is also accused of having ties Basternak, as well as of helping the businessman avoid persecution.
"No country in modern-day Europe has fallen so low," Ordinary People opposition party leader Igor Matovic said during the demonstration, the SME newspaper reported on Monday.

Monday's protest against Fico is the second to take place over recent weeks. Slovakia's parliament has held two special sessions demanded by opposition parties as the latter attempted to force Kalinak's resignation by initiating a no-confidence vote. Opposition supporters have vowed to hold protest rallies every Monday until Kalinak resigns. Fico backed his government's minister and is reportedly set to face similar parliamentary procedures on Wednesday.
Fico's Direction — Social Democracy party failed to get a parliamentary majority during elections in March and was forced into a coalition with three other parties. The opposition Ordinary People party received 11 percent of the vote.
