Former London Mayor Boris Johnson supported fellow Brexit campaigner Andrea Leadsom for ruling Conservative Party leadership and the prime ministerial post, British media reported Monday.

LONDON (Sputnik) – Leadsom announced her candidacy for Tory leadership on Thursday. Johnson was seen as the frontrunner in the race until his presumed supporter Justice Secretary Michael Gove stepped in for the party leadership role.

"Andrea Leadsom offers the zap, the drive, and the determination essential for the next leader of this country," Johnson said in a statement published by the BBC.
