MOSCOW (Sputnik) – These athletes previously filed individual applications to participate in the Olympics with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Alexandra Brilliantova, the head of the legal department at the Russian Olympic Committee told R-Sport news agency on Monday that on July 2, the Committee and 68 Russia athletes had filed a lawsuit against the IAAF, which had earlier upheld ARAF ban for IAAF membership.
On June 21, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the summit in Lausanne, Switzerland, supported the IAAF's decision, but did not ban all Russian national team members from the participation in the 2016 Olympics, assuming that some Russian athletes will take part in the Games under the Russian flag. These athletes will be removed from disqualifications individually by the IAAF.
The lawsuit is expected to be considered on July 19, according to Brilliantova.
