"The [IMF] mission will start discussing possible [Moldova-IMF] program in order to reach a consent over a complex set of measures aiming to preserve macro economic stability, improvement of management quality and increase of shareholders' transparency in the banking sector… We hope that following the visit, a new IMF-Moldova agreement will be prepared and signed, which will ultimately unlock the financing of many investment projects by the IMF and other international organizations," Braghis said.
Chisinau joined the IMF in 1992 and participated in a number of programs aimed at supporting Moldova's economic adjustment programs. The previous IMF-supported program expired in 2013, however the fund had not provided Moldova with the last tranche, because of the country's high social expenditures and fiscal deficit.
