MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Le Figaro newspaper cited police sources that put the attendance at 6,500-7,500 people, while trade unions estimated that up to 45,000 came to protest.
The demonstrations in the Place d'Italie and the Place de la Bastille ran off peacefully, according to police prefecture’s Twitter feed. More protests are expected in the evening.
Unions called for demonstrations across France after the Socialist government invoked a special article in the Constitution that allowed it to force contentious labor reforms through the National Assembly despite opposition from its own party members.
