WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A US armed drone MQ-9 Reaper crashed in Syria while flying a combat mission, the US Air Force said in a statement on Tuesday.
"An MQ-9 Reaper crashed in northern Syria July 5," the statement said. "The aircraft was flying a combat mission when positive control of the aircraft was lost."
The drone did not crash in the result of enemy fire, the Air Force noted, adding that the cause of the crash is under investigation.
Coalition aircraft destroyed the drone after the crash so it could not end up in enemy hands, the statement said.
