MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Tuscany regional council supported the Lega Nord motion to lift anti-Russian sanctions. On Tuesday, a similar resolution was passed in Lombardy, while last month it was approved in Liguria.
“The Northern League [Lega Nord] party is leading a great battle to help Italian entrepreneurs and Russian people to find a solution that could overcome those ridiculous and dangerous economic sanctions… We have ascertained that the iniquitous sanctions against the Russian Federation are heavily hurting those entrepreneurs that operate within the Russian country. Rather than hurting Russian people, these decisions are going to create a lot of problems for the Italian economic sector, especially for the agricultural district of Tuscany. It seems that, this absurd commercial situation was made like a punishment for the Italian entrepreneurs,” Manuel Vescovi said.
Since 2014, relations between Russia and the European Union deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 and for Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.
