MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Later in the day, two finalists of the race for the position of the leader of the Conservative Party and the next UK Prime Minster will be announced after the second and final round of intra-party elections following Prime Minister David Cameron's plans to resign.
"The Conservative Party seems determined to put the divisions of the referendum behind them but in what direction they will go is unclear. If they elect Theresa May as the new leader then that could well open up an opportunity for UKIP as she is pro EU and the people have shown they aren't," Sidney Cordle, the party leader, said.
On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
