WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The congressman from Texas argued that some cities in the United States that have imposed tight gun control laws such as Chicago continue to experience waves of violence and killings.

"I do not believe [a new gun law] is the answer," Sessions told The Hill on Friday.

Sessions claimed that the prevalence of gangs and "competition for turf" among them as well as other criminals has led to loss of live.

"That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with gun control, and we have to address all the issues, not find an easy blame," he added.

Five Dallas police officers were shot and killed at a protest in the city that took place following the death of two black men who were killed by police in separate incidents in Louisiana and Minnesota. Police killed Johnson after the attack by exploding a bomb in the location where he was cornered.
