MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Over 500 workers and 100 pieces of equipment are involved in the construction, it added, which includes accommodation, cultural, leisure and sports facilities that span nearly 155,000 square miles and include 392 buildings.
"Active construction continues of infrastructure facilities for the Russian Armed Forces on the Kuril Islands of Iturup and Kunashir… The project involves the construction of military-purpose facilities: sites, training grounds, munitions and hardware storage areas," Spetsstroy said in a press release.
Earlier it was reported that the construction of the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet base on Matua in the Kuril Islands chain will begin as soon as this year.
