CAIRO (Sputnik) — The appeal follows Wednesday's publication of Sir John Chilcot’s long-awaited report on Britain’s involvement in the 2003 Iraq invasion.
"The aftermath of these events requires that the General Assembly and to the Security Council urgently request the International Criminal Court to prosecute all those responsible for aggression against Iraq, led former US President George W. Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair as war criminals," the appeal reads.
The Egyptian lawmakers urged the international community to assess the economic and political damage done to Iraq over the years following the invasion and to extract compensation from London and Washington.
The 12-volumes long Chilcot report, which is the result of over seven years of investigation, concluded that the UK decision to join the war was taken on the basis of flawed intelligence data and assessments.
