KIEV (Sputnik) – The statement also said that Poroshenko informed the IMF managing director about the course of Ukrainian reforms and fight against corruption.
"President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde… The parties discussed the provision of the next tranche to Ukraine," the statement said.
On May 18, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Ukraine reached the final agreement on the text of the updated memorandum of cooperation, required to complete the second review under the financial assistance program. The agreements and the decision on the third tranche of the loan to Ukraine should be approved by the IMF Board of Directors at the meeting later in July.
In March 2015, the IMF approved a four-year $17.5-billion assistance package for Ukraine to revive the country's economy and encourage a number of reforms. Kiev has already received two tranches under the financial-aid program.
