NATO Waits for Russia-NATO Council Before Making Any Decision on Russia

At the informal discussions about Russia on Friday evening, the leaders of NATO member states reached no decision and they are waiting for the NATO-Russia Council meeting in order to make any, a NATO representative said Saturday.

WARSAW (Sputnik) — The representative added that NATO member states leaders noted the importance of the NATO-Russia Council as a forum for dialogue.

"It was an informal discussion on Russia. The decisions were not taken, as it was not scheduled to make decisions…. There was significant support expressed towards the NATO-Russia Council which will be conducted next week. The leaders are waiting for this meeting," a NATO representative who requested to stay anonymous told journalist at the sidelines of NATO summit in Warsaw.

The next NATO-Russia Council meeting at ambassadorial level is scheduled for July 13.

On July 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the next NATO-Russia Council meeting will be focused on the decisions made at the NATO summit in Warsaw regarding military presence and missile defense issues.

NATO summit is taking place in Polish capital on July 8-9.
