"It's hardly necessary to escalate tensions around the Olympics. I can assure you that in regard to the Russian Foreign Ministry, in cooperation with our colleagues and partners in other Russian agencies, everything needed will be done for safe stay of the Russian delegation, including athletes and fans in Rio," Schetinin told RIA Novosti.
Schetinin also expressed hope that the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro will be the "festival of sport, peace and friendship."
"We know that the Brazilian organizers are actively working on the implementation of all necessary measures, including safety of the athletes and guests of the Games," he added.
Last week, UN Assistant Secretary-General Jean-Paul Laborde said that the risk of terrorist attacks during the Games was still high.
Rio de Janeiro is due to host the Summer Olympic Games on August 5-21, 2016, becoming the first South American country to host the competition.
