TBILISI (Sputnik) — Georgia's Defense Minister Tinatin Khidasheli and State Minister for Reconciliation Paata Zakareishvili will be resigning in the upcoming days in order to take part in the country's parliamentary elections, the speaker of the Georgian parliament said Tuesday.
"Republican Party ministers who have done a lot of work for this country — Tinatin Khidasheli and Paata Zakareishvili — will be leaving their offices. In a few days, with the permission of the prime minister, they will finish their work and join party activities," David Usupashvili told reporters.
The Republican Party announced in March that it would leave the ruling Georgian Dream alliance in order to take part in the elections on an individual basis. Another Republican member of cabinet, Environment Minister Gigla Agulashvili, will be keeping his position after leaving the party.
