North Carolina Republican delegate Mary Frances Forrester proposed an amendment on Monday aiming to take the war on porn much further, by encouraging states to fight what they call “a public menace.”
"The internet must not become a safe haven for predators. Pornography, with its harmful effects, especially on children, has become a public health crisis that is destroying the life of millions. We encourage states to continue to fight this public menace and pledge our commitment to children's safety and well-being. We applaud the social networking sites that bar sex offenders from participation. We urge energetic prosecution of child pornography which is closely linked to human trafficking,” the proposed platform text reads.
Ironically, presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s wife Melania would be the only First Lady, should the unlikely candidate win, to have posed nude, during her time as a model.
The committee debates over the platform continued on Tuesday, and a full draft will be sent to the floor of the convention next week.
