NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for peace and stability in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir facing continuing clashes since last week, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Tuesday.
Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in the region after last week's killing of local militant leader Burhan Wani. At least 31 people have been killed and a total of 1,365 injured.
"The prime minister has called for peace and stability. He also expressed hope that civilians wouldn't suffer inconvenience or harm," Singh told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
According to Singh, the prime minister also assured that the government would provide any assistance to the Jammu and Kashmir authorities in resolving the situation.
