ASTANA (Sputnik) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expects to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Baku on August 8 and discuss the political process in Syria among other issues, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Ibrahim Rahimpur said Wednesday.
The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the trilateral summit of the Russian, Azerbaijani and Iranian leaders in the capital of Azerbaijan.
"The presidential meeting will undoubtedly take place… Russia and Iran maintain close cooperation in Syria, which brings good results and is very significant for the peace process," Rahimpur told reporters, adding that the Syrian reconciliation would be part of the discussion.
According to Rahimpur, Baku's stance on Syria has much in common with that of Russia and Iran, in particular, on the ways to solve the conflict and necessity to fight against terrorism.
