WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Some 48 percent of African Americans, who were surveyed days before last week’s fatal shootings of two African-American men by police in the US states of Louisiana and Minnesota, said that local law enforcement them them unfairly, a Gallup poll revealed on Wednesday.
The near even split in attitudes, however, skewed sharply negative when African Americans were asked to compare local police treatment of them and white Americans, the poll noted.
"Two-thirds of blacks say blacks are treated less fairly than whites," in routine encounters "dealing with the police, such as traffic incidents," the survey pointed out.
Following last week’s killing of the two African-American men, rival demonstrations for and against local law enforcement practices have swept cities throughout the United States.
