MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – Democrat Rodrigo Maia has been elected the new president of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies.
Maia of the Democrats' party (DEM) was elected in the second round with over 200 votes, defeating his rival from the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Rogerio Rosso, who got 170 votes.
Maia becomes the second authority in the country behind the interim president Michel Temer who was appointed after Dilma Rousseff was suspended following the start of impeachment proceedings against her.
